Watercolor & Water-Based Media
Watercolor painting is a distinctive medium, straddling the worlds of painting and drawing to create a unique art form. It’s versatile, allowing for rich, vivid tones or soft, soothing forms. Your choice. Your vision. Ready to dive in?
Classes are taught by our talented, professional artist members in our beautiful historic downtown building. If you’ve ever thought about taking up watercolors or water-based media, or improving your current skill level in these areas, these classes are for you! To join a class, please reach out to one of the instructors below. You don’t need to be an NBAL Member to take classes - anyone over 18 is welcome!
Instructor: Mary Elle
Time: Wednesdays, 1:30 -4:30 PM, Mar 20, 27 , Apr 3 & 17 Dates: Mar 20, 27 , Apr 3 & 17 Cost: $150 for 4 classes. Includes $20 Studio Fee. (No prorations). Room: Memorial Negative Painting with Mary Elle: a 4-Class Series
Turn your thinking inside out and paint the negative spaces rather than the positive objects. The first class we will work in black & white in order to establish the method without dealing with color. We may add a second exercise with color as time allows. In the following classes, we will add color and paint some autumn leaves and continue with fruit or flowers for the final project. I will provide a supply list upon registration (contact me). My list is not extensive, and I do not require students to purchase a particular brand of paint or paper with the caveat that student grade paper (like Canson) will give you poor results and the same is true with student grade paint (such as Grumbacher.)
