Mission Statement
The New Braunfels Art League (NBAL) was established to:
- promote the visual arts in New Braunfels, Texas,
- educate the community about art,
- allow access to teachers, workshops, classes, field trips, library, gallery, and the companionship and ideas of other artists,
- promote the visual arts to children and adults, and
- contribute toward making New Braunfels a cultural art center.
History of the NBAL
In the Beginning
During the Wurstfest in 1964, a number of artists began to discuss the need for an art league in New Braunfels. A display was set up at the old Junior High Gym and was so well received by local people and tourists, that on January 28, 1965, the New Braunfels Art League became a reality. Their primary goal of promoting interest and knowledge of art as well as the establishment of public art display lives on today.
The Art League Today
The Art League eventually purchased and spent several years restoring the handsome two-story building in which it is now located on San Antonio Street near the Square in New Braunfels. All members are very proud of it. Preservation is on-going.
The spacious first floor houses the main gallery with work from the juried members and the large Elaine Felder Gallery designated for themed monthly special shows. The second floor with its oak floors, tall windows, and soaring ornamental ceiling has been brought back to life to provide a striking backdrop for art workshops, classes, exhibitions, meetings, and demonstrations.
Art workshops, classes, and painting groups are scheduled throughout the year, providing techniques and inspiration to the artists whose experience ranges from beginner to master. These programs are open to anyone who would like to participate; all are welcome.
We'd love to have you see the magic that is the Art League! Visit us anytime Monday through Saturday,
10 am -5 pm, or Sundays, Noon to 5:00 pm.
