Drawing-Based Media

The New Braunfels Art League offers a wide variety of art classes throughout the year for people of all ages and skill levels. These classes are taught by our talented, professional artist members in our beautifully renovated historic building. You do not have to be a member of the Art League to join these classes, so if you have ever thought about taking up an art medium, or improving your current skill level, these classes are for you!

Portrait Drawing Class
Instructor: Michael Gillespie
Date & Time:  Starts Monday the 19th of January 
Location:  Memorial Classroom 
Classes will be weekly on Monday beginning at 12pm to 4pm.
Cost is $25 plus a $5.00 Studio Fee.
Yes, drawing the human form is probably the most challenging, but what better subject to increase your skills. This class is meant to train your eye to see accurately what is in front of you. We will learn about appropriate drawing materials and use comparative measurement, triangulation, and other methods, using photos and plaster casts to learn where to place standard features on a head, as well as how individuals differ, to achieve a likeness.

Date & Time: First Tuesdays, 9am to noon.  Class limited to 8 students
Cost: $50 per session, plus $5 /student studio fee
​Location: Bower Classroom
A class for intermediate to advanced students who work in oil, acrylic, pastel, or watercolor and are ready to put in the work necessary to take their art to the next level. Assignments will be given to be worked on between sessions and students will be asked to share their results.  Students will receive guidance for their specific journey and help setting and reaching their personal goals. *Must have a good working knowledge of their chosen medium.

Location:  Memorial Classroom
Pastel Explorations: Introductory and Continuing exploration of the pastel medium.  Students create from their choice of reference and feedback is given.  Learn and grow together.
