A Three-Day, Hands-On Workshop
With Peggy McGivern Oct. 15 - 18, 2026; 10 am - 5 pm Daily
|
This is not your ordinary figurative/landscape class. All those photographs that you have wanted to interpret on canvas but were intimidated by “getting it right”, now is the time to gather them up and, without fear, have a blast with the results.
Using the Blind Contour Method (looking at your subject, not your canvas) we will avoid the fear of perfection. This will be our road map to take us from start to finish. From there we will use layering, glazing and outline to create depth, movement and texture. You will learn to see shapes instead of things, shadow and light as composition. There is no wrong, each mistakes creates another perfection.
Topics for discussion:

Topics for discussion:
- Experimenting with textures, layering, glazing and outline to create movement and depth.
- Simplifying shapes
- Avoiding the predictable horizon line
- Shadow and light as shapes
- The fear of perfection (a horse doesn’t have to have four legs)
- What was the first thing you saw? Start there
- Experimenting with bringing the background forward and the foreground back
- Drawing objects out of proportion from each other
