In this three-day workshop, Melinda Cootsona will guide students in creating rich, layered cold wax paintings with a focus on the human figure. Although often associated with abstraction, cold wax is equally powerful in enhancing realist work. Students will learn techniques that balance control with the medium’s spontaneous, surprising nature—part of what makes it so engaging.
- Level: Intermediate to advanced
- Medium: Oil and cold wax (water-based oils permitted)
Melinda Cootsona has taught painting for over 24 years, leading workshops across the U.S. and Europe. She was an early pioneer of online art instruction, launching her first eCourse in 2012. Known for her detailed feedback and constructive critique, her classes are consistently in high demand.
Influenced by the Bay Area Figurative Movement and her background in interior architecture, Melinda works in both figurative and abstract styles to create emotionally resonant art. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Bakersfield Museum of Art, Triton Museum (CA), San Francisco Art Market, Coos Bay Museum of Art (OR), Art Basel Miami, and in numerous solo and group shows nationwide.
Melinda holds a BA from the California College of the Arts, and her work is included in collections throughout the U.S., Europe, Australia, and China.
