Join us for an immersive art workshop where participants will explore a variety of techniques to elevate their creative practice. This hands-on experience focuses on learning versatile skills that can be applied to a wide range of artistic projects. Key techniques covered include layering and composition, where participants will discover how to build depth and structure within their artwork to create dynamic, balanced compositions. They will also learn how to incorporate mixed media by integrating personal or symbolic objects into their work, such as small jewelry pieces, letters, or other meaningful items.
Storytelling through art will be another focus, allowing participants to infuse their pieces with narrative and emotion using symbolic color palettes, texture, and imagery. Textural techniques will be explored to add dimension and tactile interest, enhancing the visual impact of each piece. Lastly, preservation and finishing techniques will provide valuable insights into protecting and preserving artwork to ensure its durability and significance for years to come. By the end of the workshop, participants will have completed a meaningful piece and acquired adaptable skills to enhance their future artistic endeavors.
Participants should bring one 18x24-inch canvas, a piece of jewelry such as earrings, broken jewels, or necklaces, letters, or other meaningful flat objects that belong to a special person. Flat items work best; avoid rings or chunky items that may make the canvas heavy or uneven. Acrylic paint in a preferred color palette is also required, along with comfortable clothing that can get paint on it. A black-and-white print of a photo, preferably a 16x20-inch headshot of good quality, should also be brought.
Materials provided during the workshop include brushes, pencils, pens, gold leaf glue, gold leaf sealer, gold leaf sheets, epoxy, a heat gun, spatulas, and creative tools for texture. Additionally, aprons, gloves, and goggles (optional) will be available for use, along with tracing graphite paper. Learn more about Gio and her work at dizurita.com.
