These words not only drive photographer Larry Johnson, they define him. For most of his working life he worked as a globally recognized educational technologist and futurist; these roles took him to more than 125 countries and every continent but Antarctica. From the time he was a teenager, a camera was always at hand. His work provided him with an endless stream of new places and people to photograph and new stories to tell. Artist statement — Eilen Thedford
It would be wonderful if I could explain what I do, very systematically, organized and objectively,
but I can’t.
My art is a combination of ideas and happenings with an immediacy of the moment and
memories of the past. It all happens in paint, and collage, and crayon, layer by layer, Usually
with no explanation. My art happens when ideas form, emotions “appear.”
My hope, is that my viewer will be compelled by the image, not just the illustration of a “thing”,
but one that takes hold and becomes visual, with different meaning for each viewer. I want
viewers to be able to connect to it.
I hope I achieve that by allowing it to happen, to manifest itself as the inner workings of the
heart and mind, colluding! Add to that a huge love of color, texture and line, let ing the paint find
its own way. When people and animals and symbols come to visit I am joyful!!
